Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone that is looking to start their photography journey and establish a solid foundation and workflow. It requires no prior exposure to photography and we welcome all beginners. We recommend, that you have a DSLR or a mirrorless camera, but some advanced point and shoot cameras are also acceptable.

Course Structure:

Duration: 14 Hours (Saturday: 10AM-5PM & Sunday: 10AM-5PM)
Each day is split into a morning and afternoon session. The afternoon session concludes with a portrait assignment with assigned models on both days.

Saturday

  • Start the morning with the absolute basics in photography. We will take you through a journey to ensure that you perfectly understand and are able to think through the application of manual photography. There will be a set of group activities and exercises to make the learning experience exciting and complete.
  • We start the afternoon session with lighting and composition, working through the three levels of compositional thought process. We will then get into a series of group exercises that will apply some of the concepts learned.
  • We conclude the class with a set of portrait exercises that will encompass all the concepts learned during the day.
Students go back home but must complete a series of exercises to strengthen their learning process

Sunday

  • We start our Sunday morning with a review of the previous day's concepts and a series of exercises to dive deeper into the application of concepts learned. We then, again, break into groups and work through a series of composition and critiquing exercises.
  • The next step that morning will cover the basic workflow of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. Students will first work on a series of standard photographs and later - on the photographs from the previous day - employing various processes to improve and internalise composition as well as pay attention to bringing out moods and reactions. The class will also cover the concept of shooting to process and the ideal way to work through digital editing.
  • We conclude the day's session with a portrait shoot, which encompasses many of the concepts learned during the day. Students must submit their final processed images for review and feedback.

Next Steps

All Creative Cloud subscribers are eligible for a free portfolio. We hope that you will embark on 2 shoots that will help you apply and internalize these concepts. Once you feel a bit more comfortable, we encourage you to explore our 350D course.
